.: CHRISTIAN FORMATION
Our classes are designed to reach older kids at their level of comprehension and curiosity, while encouraging and teaching them to aid younger kids, thus nurturing their leadership and service gifts. Our passion is to offer them a living experience of our faith, our inclusive theology and our religious traditions. They learn to witness to the faith of Jesus the Christ by how it applies to their lives and how it transforms other people’s lives for the better. It teaches all the kids to notice when other need help instead of waiting for people to ask for help.
Our younger kids learn creatively through activities, story-telling, singing and sharing their ideas and perspectives of how God through Jesus works in the world and in their lives. They learn to connect the Biblical stories with their own lives and are encouraged to share ways they can help others.
Every 6-8 weeks our kids lead the worship service. So part of their faith formation time is spent looking at Scripture, discussing it, how it applies and how they can witness and proclaim the Scripture in worship. They create and order the worship service, including the prayers, the music and the proclamation/sermon – either by telling stories, drama or monologues.
March 6 is the next Sunday which the kids and youth will be leading worship service.
We have an excellent Nursery Center, separate from the Kids and Youth Faith Formation Classroom. It is designed for children from birth through pre-school. It contains many interactive toys, a time for Christian Videos, and Reading time, rocking chair, a crib and resting mats. The room also has its own bathroom specifically designed for small bodies and necessary supplies for those still in diapers through the toilet-training years.
Our recent discussion studies included "Change the World: Recovering the Message and Mission of Jesus" by Mike Slaughter which we offered Sundays following worship. We are expanding our discussion study group days and times to include evenings in homes and Saturday mornings at local coffee chops. Our current discussion group is entitled "John Wesley and Methodism 101" takes place in our discussion leader's home on Tuesday evenings for 4 weeks beginning Nov 8.
Our Advent discussion study this year will begin on November 27 after worship service: "The Journey: Walking the Road to Bethlehem" by Adam Hamilton. This discussion group faith journey will also include historical information, archaeological data and video excursions in the Holy Land that extends a meaningful historical experience of walking along the same road the led to the most amazing moment in history. We hope you will journey with us on this 5 week study beginning Sunday Nov. 27. Please contact the church office, the pastor or the discussion leader Tim Pokrywka.
